During the construction of the Taipei Metro system, the Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORTS) established the Beitou Depot and Training Center. Following the completion of the Tamsui Line, the depot’s operations and maintenance were transferred to Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) for ongoing use in staff training and education.

Beitou Depot is the largest and most advanced facility within the Taipei Metro system. Its rooftop — covering over 20,000 square meters — was equipped with solar panels and officially began grid-connected generation in August 2018. The system now generates enough electricity each year to power more than 1,752 households.

As Beitou is also a popular public attraction, TRTC aimed to present real-time solar performance data in the depot lobby for educational purposes. With the PHOTON monitoring system and a customized KIOSK TV box, the team can display visually engaging dashboards without the need for logins or browsers. All visualizations are fully customizable to meet TRTC’s specific needs.

The Beitou Depot is the largest and highest-rated depot of the Taipei Metro, featuring a rooftop area of 20,000 square meters used for installing solar panels, and officially connected to the grid for electricity generation in August 2018. So far, it has provided electricity for over 1,752 households annually.

As the Beitou Depot is one of Taiwan's famous tourist attractions, the Taipei Metro management team hopes to display detailed data on solar power generation in real-time in the lobby for educational purposes. With the PHOTON monitoring system and a custom KIOSK TV box, users can access a beautiful dashboard without logging into the system or launching a browser, and all presented information can be customized according to the management team's needs.
