Sustainable ESG Management: Daiichi-Kasei’s Environmental Responsibility

In recent years, companies around the world have increasingly recognized the importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives—not only in reducing CO₂ emissions but also in ensuring business continuity and increasing corporate value.

This initiative not only promotes carbon neutrality but also ensures that the factory cafeteria can serve as an evacuation center with a reliable power supply in emergencies.

Challenges in Maximizing Renewable Energy and Ensuring Disaster Preparedness

While the introduction of solar PV and battery systems improves energy efficiency, several key challenges emerged:

1.Self-Consumption Constraints:Due to regulations prohibiting reverse power flow to the grid, it is essential to optimize battery charge/discharge schedules to avoid wasting excess solar energy.

2. Real-Time Energy Management Needs:Since solar generation fluctuates significantly with weather, it is necessary to monitor real-time generation and consumption data and automatically control battery operations for efficient energy use.

3.Emergency Backup Power Planning:In anticipation of power outages or natural disasters, maintaining sufficient battery reserves is crucial. Manual settings, however, are time-consuming and not ideal for responding to sudden emergencies.

Optimized Energy Management with the PHOTON Remote Monitoring System

To solve these challenges, Daiichi-Kasei adopted PHOTON, a solar remote monitoring system developed by thingnario. Leveraging AIoT (AI + IoT) technology, PHOTON enables real-time monitoring, smart control, and automated energy management, significantly improving the operational efficiency of combined solar and battery systems.

1.Real-Time Energy Data & Automated Battery Optimization:PHOTON monitors load demand, solar output, and battery status in real time. AI algorithms analyze energy needs and automatically determine optimal charge/discharge timing—minimizing wasted energy and maximizing renewable energy usage.

2. One-Click Emergency Mode Activation:When a potential blackout is predicted, PHOTON can automatically switch to disaster-preparedness mode with a single click. It adjusts the energy plan to ensure sufficient battery reserves, enhancing responsiveness compared to manual methods.

3. Stable Power Supply to Evacuation Areas:In the event of a major disaster, PHOTON instantly adjusts battery usage to ensure continuous power supply to designated shelters—supporting Daiichi-Kasei’s ESG commitment to community resilience and coexistence.
